LLB Course Overview

LLB course or Bachelor of Legislative Law is a three years bachelor degree program. This course covers the aspects of judiciary and law. Students who are keenly interested in law have to pursue LLB Degree. This course aims at developing judgmental, communication and case solving skills in students. There are thousand plus institutions in India including top ranked universities that offer LLB courses under the supervision of Bar Council of India. 

The course curriculum is nicely structured that strengthens the base of the LLB candidates and helps to enrich the skills. LLB course curriculum comprises, theory, assignments, moot court sessions and internship. Students are required to take part in each academic activity. Students seeking admission in LLB courses must have pursued three year graduation. However, if you want to pursue a Bachelor of Legislative Law just after passing higher secondary, you have to choose among BBA LLB, BA LLB or B.Com LLB or B.Sc. LLB.

LLB Duration

The duration of LLB is three year. The three year law degree is divided into six semesters. These six semesters contain all majors’ subjects that help the students to get a strong foundation. LLB degree is awarded to those students who have finished three years of law education successfully. However, after completing LLB degree, students need to clear the All India Bar Exam (AIBE) conducted by BCI. 

LLB Course Fee Structure

The LLB course is a higher professional degree course. It is majorly pursued by those students who wish to enter into the profession of law or similar job profiles. The average fees structure of LLB courses in top ranked universities cost somewhere around 1 to 2 lakhs per annum. The faculty of Law, Delhi University provide LLB under 25,000 per semester including university fees. Fees structure of three year LLB course in some universities can reach up to 7 Lakhs or above. 

LLB Course Eligibility Criteria 

Students seeking admission in LLB courses from Indian universities/colleges have to satisfy the eligibility criteria. Candidates cannot pursue three years LLB after 12th education. They have to go for any one course namely, B.A LLB, B.Com LLB, B.Sc. LLB, etc. 

  1. Students who wish to pursue a bachelor law degree just after completing 10+2 education must have obtained at least 45% marks in 12th standard. Additionally, they are also required to qualify the entrance examination held by the institute. 
  2. For a pure LLB course, candidates must hold a bachelor degree from a recognized college/university without any gap in bachelor education. In addition, candidates are required to pass the entrance examination to get admission in India.
  3. There is no age limit set bar for pursuing LLB courses. 

LLB Course Admission Process 

The admission procedure of LLB courses is very simple. Usually, the admission of LLB aspirants will depend upon the Entrance Examination. There are very few institutions in India that offer admission on the basis of merits; other admission is purely based on entrance examination. 

Universities like Symbiosis School of Law or Delhi University conduct entrance examinations to select the eligible candidates. Students who fall within the eligibility criteria (Those who secured minimum cut-off marks) will easily get admission in LLB course. 

However, there are some institutions as well those who provide admission on the basis of merit marks. These institutes release their cut-off list and if you scored equal or above marks are eligible to take admission in LLB course.

After completing LLB course successfully, students can pursue LLM to get specialized in a particular specialization. Popular specializations of LLM degree are company law, corporate law, Criminal law or business law, Family law, etc. Apart from that a graduate can choose from a number of career professions such as he/ she could be a lawyer, advisor, legal writer, Public prosecutor, session judge etc. 

LLB graduates can build their job profession into a blooming career. They can go for various academic, private or government law posts as well. The salary package of LLB graduates depends upon their profession whereas, one can expect a starting package range in between 2-3 lakhs per annum. However if you are working in government departments it could be higher than 4 lakhs per year.
