CAT 2018 is national level MBA entrance exam which is held in all cities across India. CAT stands for Common Admission Test. In every academic session, millions of students appear in CAT for making their career in management sector. Management is considered one of the most job oriented program now-a-days.

It is the gateway for pursuing post graduate programmes in Business Administration in 19 IIMs and various other B-schools are over India.

CAT 2018 Eligibility Criteria

For the students who wish to sit for Common Admission Test 2018, the minimum CAT eligibility criteria is graduation with 50% marks for those who belong to general category and 45%for those belonging to SC/ST/PWD category. However if instead of percentages, the institute or college CGPA then the same is required to be converted in the percentage form according to procedure certified by the university/ institution from where the candidate has passed his/her bachelors degree. Those students who are still in the third year or last semester of their graduation year and results are awaited are also eligible to take CAT 2018.

CAT 2018 Application Process

The application form for CAT 2018 can only be filled in the online mode and no offline applications are to made. Also separate online forms are to be filled for different B – schools once the results for CAT are declared.

  1. Registration on CAT 2018 official website.
  2. Filing up of Application by entering personal details, contact information, academic details, work experience, program preference and exam center preference.
  3. Uploading of scanned copies of as Photograph, Signature, Category certificate and disability certificate.
  4. Payment of application fee.

CAT 2018 Application Form

CAT 2018 online application will be filled in the online mode by logging into the official website of CAT. Registration is done through the email id and entering the user name and other details. Once the registration is done, rest of the application form is filled by entering the personal details, educational details and professional details and also uploading the photograph, signature. Fee payment is the last step in the application process and it is to be done in the online mode only.

CAT 2018 Exam Pattern

Computer based CAT examination comprises of three sections, Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VRC), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DI & LR) and Quantitative Ability (QA). Along with multiple choice questions, few non MCQ questions are also asked in the examination. Candidates are required to provide the answer in the form of explanations and working in the space provided. A basic on-screen calculator has been provided for calculation.

Exam is of 180 minutes i.e. 3 hours. There is no provision for sectional cutoff in CAT and hence the overall percentile is considered for admission to various colleges.

CAT Exam Syllabus

There are three sections which are covered in the CAT examination are those three sections are verbal ability, data interpretation and logical reasoning and quantitative ability. Individual topic wise syllabus is given below:

Verbal and Reading Comprehension

Verbal reasoning, antonyms and synonyms, sentence correction, critical reasoning, fill in the blanks, syllogism, analogies, and idioms.

Data Interpretation

Area graph, Line graph, Charts (Columns, bar, pie), tables, venn diagrams

Logical Reasoning

Clocks and calendars, Directions, Binary Logic, Coding-decoding, Blood relations, Linear and matrix arrangement, Syllogism

Quantitative Ability

Number system, Geometry, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Quadratic & Linear Equation, Algebra, Permutation and Combination, Ratio & Proportion, Time & Work, Trigonometry

CAT 2018 Selection Procedure

Once the results of the online examination are declared, according to the scores the candidates are required to fill in the application forms of various other institutes separately. The admission to an institute is not only done on the basis of the CAT scores and includes group discussion, written ability test and personal interview.  Hence the final selection procedure comprises of the above tests.

Group Discussion – In group discussion a group is formed and a topic is given to the group to discuss about it within the time frame specified. The topic can be related to current general awareness or static topics can also be given.  Through this the student’s knowledge, basic etiquettes, team building skills etc are judged.

Written Ability Test – In written ability test, sometimes a case study is given to solve and give the solution for the same while at other times, one or more topics are given to write an essay on within the specified time frame.

Personal Interview – In this round, the student has to appear before a panel of 4-5 interviewers who test the student on his communication ability, his academic and family background, work experience etc.

CAT 2018 Admit Card (Available)

The admit card for the examination has been released online by the candidates once the date for the release of the admit cards is announced. The candidates are required to carry their admit cards to the examination centre along with a valid identity proof which can be in the form Aadhaar card, driving license, pan card, voter id card etc. The admit card furnishes the details about the candidates name, venue, date and time of the exam, roll number etc of the candidate.

Steps to download the admit card for CAT 2018

  1. Visit the official website https://iimcat.ac.in/.
  2.  Enter login credentials such as User Id and password.
  3. Click on ‘login’ to proceed further and to open the student account.
  4. On successful login, click on the link to download the admit card.
  5. Download it and keep it safe for future use.
