GRE 2021 which stands for Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is an international level entrance test which is taken by the students who are interested in pursuing a master’s degree, specialized master’s course, Masters of Science (MS), MBA or doctoral degree at graduate and business schools located in different parts of the world. The exam conducting body for GRE 2021 is Educational Testing Service (ETS), which is a US based organization. The test mainly analyzes three skills in the candidate and those three skills are Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning. GRE also has subject tests, apart from the basic GRE exam and those subjects are specifically for students who have undergone a degree course in those subjects. The subjects are Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Literature, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology. GRE can be taken in offline as well as online modes. The GRE Test 2021 is available at over 1000 test centers in more than 160 countries.

GRE Eligibility Criteria

Talking about the eligibility, there is no set criterion with respect to age, qualification etc to be followed by students in order to sit for GRE 2021. However the students are required to possess a valid passport and carry it to the examination centre as the original passport will serve as the valid identity proof for the students. This is mandatory. However, candidates have to fulfill the admission criteria for individual institutes where they are applying. The entire duration of the exam is 3hrs and 45 minutes.

GRE 2021 Dates

Like other international standardized exams, there are no fixed official GRE dates and hence the dates can be chosen as per the convenience of the student. However it should be noted that the exam date that should be at least two months before the first application deadline.

Application process of GRE 2021 starts form the third week of February 2021.

Deadline of application submission is last week of March 2021.

Admit card will be issued by April 2021.

So if the deadline for the application is November, a test date for September should be chosen, retake of GRE exam can be taken in October again.

GRE Registration 2021

In order to register the students are required to create a My GRE Account’. You can apply for the GRE as well as check your scores in your account. There are three ways to register for GRE exam and that is through online registration, GRE entrance text.

  • Select GRE test type- GRE General or GRE subject test
  • Further location preference is set and date is set for the GRE.

  • Last step is to make the payment, hence make payment through American Express, Discover, JCB, MasterCard or VISA

GRE 2021 Exam Fee

The application fee for (GRE) General Test is $205 worldwide which is equivalent to 13,500 to 14,500 in India.

The GRE has three sections- Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning. The total duration of the GRE is 3 hours 40 minutes. Besides the main academic sections, there are two other variable sections and a 10-minute break is given after the third (Quantitative Reasoning) section during the GRE test 2021. The GRE 2021 test pattern includes seven GRE subject tests. They are: Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Literature in English, Mathematics, Physics and Psychology.

The two variable sections are Unscored and the Research section, which do not count toward the actual GRE 2021 score.


GRE 2021 Admit Card

Once the students have successfully registered for the exam, the admit cards will be mailed to the students after few days of registration. Admit card will be released by April 2021.  The admit card contains details about the choice of test, test date, GRE 2021 test center and also the details about the candidate, his name, date of birth, roll number  etc. Any discrepancy should be informed at the earliest so that the corrections can be made.

GRE Results 2021

ETS which is the exam conducting body announces the results after few days of the exam. Candidates are notified about the same through email which is sent to them. Candidates sitting for the computer-based test can source their unofficial Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning scores at the test center. The official results are available within 10 to 15 days of the GRE test 2021.


  • The total scores are valid for five years after the year in which the student gave the exam.
  • The official test scores will be available in students’ account on the GRE website. They are sent to the universities of the students’ choice within six weeks of the test date.

GRE Participating Institutes 2021

GRE scores are accepted by various organizations in considering candidates for their graduate and post graduate programmes. However GRE is most commonly accepted by universities in USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore and Germany and many others which also accept GRE scores, especially for their engineering programmes. Also, GRE subject test score is not required by all universities or departments. Aspirants can apply for the GRE subject test if the department requires it. GRE scores are accepted by thousands of GRE test 2021 participating institutes in the world which also includes over 1,200 business schools.
